Friday afternoon procrastination

Friday. Very tired today and having absolutely no motivation whatsoever. Still decided to stay around a bit longer and at least pretend to work.I find myself checking my twitter feed more than anything else. And looking through the contents on my memory stick marked "Karate". I notice now that surprisingly much of the material is unknown even to myself. And while some of it certainly very interesting, it's also definitely not what I should be doing right now. It's far too easy to be lazy when there's no one else around.Or, well, distracted might be a better word than lazy - I'm actively procrastinating after all...

My conscience isn't too bad, though. I've made progress with both theses and I don't have any impending deadline right this moment. That I know of.

Wow. This was a very necessary post.

on junk, work and vacation

I decided by the end of May that I would not even touch any of my academic work throughout June. Why? Because I really needed the break. Now that June is almost over (still have no idea where the whole month disappeared to?!) I still think it was the right choice, it's been very good for me to lower the pace a bit for a while and allow myself to focus on the simple things - like my home and my health.

I've finally cleaned my flat up (not completely, but getting there) and also moved stuff around a little, for more space - and  I love the result! And at the same time I've finally got to throwing lots of junk out. The only thing that hasn't happened yet is the flea market table I had planned for. I did go and ask at a place, but the owner just said it was fully booked and  took my phone number to contact me whether this would change... and I still haven't heard from him. There are, of course, other flea markets in Turku but most of them have ridiculously expensive weekly fees.

In my last post I wrote that i now "should have more time to focus on my art", and I've tried to do that, too. I have done a number of sketches, but the really good ideas are never there when you crave them the most, I guess. Anyway, I'm hoping that this will also be easier to focus on now, with the worst mess gone from my home.

Where did I want to go with this post? I don't remember. It turned into one if these...

Weekend update

I had such a great weekend!

I was very happy with the meeting on Friday. More people showed up than last year, and we found some brave  new board members after two years with the exact same group. It was also a generally nice evening with inspiring discussions. And beer is always good.

On Saturday I attended the moving out/good bye- party of a couple who are leaving Turku for Vasa. I was more than a bit tired after work, and showed up late, but still almost managed to act social. Among the large group of guests were both old friends to catch up with (some I hadn't seen in years!) and nice new people to get to know. Lots of good things to eat, and a good deal of dancing, too. Brought my camera, and carried it around for most of the evening, but hardly remembered to use it. I'm obviously still not used to owning it.

To finish the weekend, I finally got my ass over to Sunday practice, which was really good! I got some very needed and constructive feedback, as well as got a chance to train with the person whose instructing I've been assisting, so we could go through things a bit more thoroughly and had the time to test ideas. I now feel quite confident about the last couple of sessions of this period. Back at home, I tried to remember my personal points and write them down, as I hope to get the chance to work on them during the course. (After which, it turns out, it's my turn to take over the instructing. I had completely forgotten about that!)

Now, if I could just stop procrastinating... Pretending to prepare a presentation here.

Premiere tonight!

Sitting in a computer class at uni pretending to work again. I did get some work done, but realized I didn't fully understand the task, so had to email the lecturer. And now I don't know what to do. Tonight's karate session starts in just under 50 minutes, so there's really no time to get started with anything new.Tried to look for something to write about on my other blog but couldn't find anything I felt like commenting on. So typically me, now that I'd finally had the perfect time to do it.

Tonight is our first session of this year's beginner's course. I'm quite excited about this, but honestly also a bit worried. I've heard from very few karate-curious people compared to last year. Of course I still hope that we'll still have at least the normal amount of new guys showing up at practise tonight, and that they've just been less prone to ask about us. And not all people who contacted us last year showed up, by far. But I'll also always react like this, if I've been involved in the advertising. I know it'll be good once I'm there!

Now listening to: Deep Purple. 8-)

Tuesday is the new Monday

I've crashed right back into reality after having been spoiled rotten for days. I think I mentioned earlier that I would have a friend visit me last week? Well, it was all very nice, I've enjoyed dinners, movies, visit to the art museum as well as pub or five, and I didn't have to wash any dishes for days! It's been very boring to return to reality and sit myself down in front of the computer again. On the other hand I am, as also mentioned earlier, a great procrastinator! Tonight, whilst sending emails, I've also done things as important as updating my twitter profile as well as stumbleupon account, and posting the same funny pic on both google+ and facebook...

Oh, and speaking about movies I will now give you one of my so far very rare movie recommendations: Moonrise Kingdom! I'm not going to write any deep descriptions or summaries on the plot, but just let you know that it was a lovely movie that made me very happy, and quite possibly also one of the best I've seen this year. Also: Wes Anderson.

And what might the odds be of me getting anything "important" done any more tonight? Oh well, it's quite late anyway. I'll get myself some sleep and try again tomorrow. Good night!

happily wasting time

So, I now started using StumbleUpon, too. And I got hooked immediately. I mean, for a notorious procrastinator like me it must be either one of the best or worst things ever invented - depending on how you look at it. I already have two blogs, accounts on both facebook and twitter, and... you name it. I seriously should start using a computer without internet access for my writing...
Speaking of blogs, I was more than a bit surprised yesterday to learn that this blog suddenly had been visited by over 100 people in one day... (When it rarely has over 10) From the most surprising countries, too! I wonder what made it happen this time.
